About Carmen R Andrews

I have been teaching for 18 years and after teaching part time for Virtual High School in the 2012-2013 school year, I will be teaching Spanish full-time for Virtual High School beginning the 2013-2014 school year. Prior to teaching at Virtual High School I taught and served as the Spanish Department Coordinator at Veterans Tribute Career & Technical Academy. Veterans Tribute CTA is a Clark County School District magnet high school dedicated to the career pathways of Law Enforcement, 911 Dispatch and EMS.

I hold a B.A. degree in Sociology/Anthropology from Earlham College that included study at Estudio Internacional Sampere in Madrid and at the Universidad Compostelana in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. I spent two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic after earning my first B.A. degree. I hold a second B.A. degree in Secondary Education with a major in Spanish from the University of Wyoming. In 2006, I earned my M.A. in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix.

I have been using comprehensible-input methodologies in my classroom since the fall of 2000. I was recognized by my school as Teacher of the Month in 2008 and by the Clark County School District in 2005 as a Southeast Region Distinguished Educator. In 2003, I co-authored "Look, I Can Talk More!" with Blaine Ray and Michael Thompson. Since 2000 I have presented workshops nationally on TPRS as well as specifically using TPRS in the upper levels, including in Advanced-Placement courses.
